High visibility vests also compulsory in Germany

High visibility vests must be carried in the car
– look out for standard symbols when purchasing

Anyone who does not yet have a high-visibility vest in their car needs to hurry. From July 1, 2014, the neon-colored vest must be on board every car. As in many European countries, it will now also be compulsory in Germany to carry a high-visibility vest in the vehicle. Previously, this only applied to commercially used vehicles.

We recommend putting on the safety vest before leaving the vehicle in the event of an involuntary stop. It is therefore important that the vest is not kept in the trunk, possibly hidden under luggage, but is easily and quickly accessible in the glove compartment or storage compartments, for example in the vehicle door. Under no circumstances should it be hung over the seat. This will interfere with the function of the side airbag. It should also not be stored in the vehicle in direct sunlight, as this reduces the reflective effect.
