GSP – Gas system installation test

after installation of a gas system in a motor vehicle

The proportion of gas-powered vehicles in the total vehicle population has so far played a rather negligible role. However, current KBA statistics show that the number of gas-powered vehicles is steadily increasing. The main reason for this development is the reduced mineral oil tax rate for natural and liquid gas until 2019.

But what is the GSP all about? GSP stands for gas system installation test and is carried out once by test engineers from recognized test organizations and officially recognized experts after the installation of a gas system that is approved in accordance with the European regulation ECE-R115. A system in accordance with the ECE-R115 regulation can be recognized by the approval number of the system, e.g. R115-000001.

For gas systems that are not approved in accordance with ECE-R115, an individual assessment in accordance with § 21 StVZO is required, which can only be carried out by an officially recognized expert.

What is checked?

  • the conformity of the individual components with the documents belonging to the gas system
  • the completeness of the documentation (approval certificate in accordance with ECE R115, user manual, installation manual)
  • Identification of the vehicle and the gas system
  • the area of application (whether the gas system may also be installed in this vehicle)
  • the condition of the gas system
  • the prescribed fastening and installation of the individual components
  • the tightness of the gas system

The following documents must be brought to the GSP:

  • Vehicle documents
  • Approval of the gas system in accordance with ECE-R115
  • User manual
  • Installation manual

Once the GSP has been successfully completed, the gas system is entered in the vehicle documents at the registration office.
