Classic car classification – expert opinion

Classification as a classic car according to § 23 StVZO

Since March 2007, the TÜFA-TEAM has a new field of activity in the area of classic car classification. We can offer enthusiasts of historic vehicles our services for the classification of vehicles as classic cars. If the requirements are met, we can provide you with a corresponding certificate – which is required for classification as a classic car.

Criteria for the successful classification of classic cars

A classic car is a vehicle that was first put on the road at least 30 years ago, corresponds as far as possible to its original condition, is in a good state of preservation and serves to maintain the vehicle’s cultural heritage.

It must be technically largely free of defects, taking into account the state of the art at the time. Unlike other “normal” vehicles, it may only show slight signs of use. Of course, no essential parts may be missing. Another prerequisite is a visibly good state of care and preservation, for example a largely flawless paintwork and, if applicable, proven maintenance work.

No residual accident damage or signs of improper repair may be visible on the vehicle. It must be original or demonstrably contemporary.

If the vehicle does not meet these conditions, a positive classification as a classic car for the preservation of motor vehicle cultural assets is generally not possible.
